The world’s best pilots will compete under the Hungarian skies, so our country will be the centre of the international aerobatics scene for the contest’s period. Uniquely, not one but two World Championships will be held at the same time and location. The interest surpassed the expectations, a record number of participants checked in from all around the world, including such exotic locations as Saudi Arabia, China, Brazil, New Zealand and the list goes on, including the European countries. We’re talking about the Advanced and the Intermediate World Championship; these levels are right below the top, the Unlimited category. Pilots, even in these categories, are flying the best planes available; the Extra 330SC or the brand new 330SX will all be present on the contest. The rules, apart from some small exceptions, are the same for all categories. There is a Free Known programme, which the pilots know and can practice before the event. This is the entry program, follwed by three Unknown programmes. For these, the participants themselves propose figures and assemble their own complexum. They can only practice on the ground before they fly the program for the judges. The performance zone, the so-called Box shall be cleared and made available for all pilots at Sármellék to familiarize with the environment and climate, this is done during the official training days. The Hungarian team did their preparations at Matkópuszta, their base airport. Three contestants have already qualified themselves. This obviously is a really important contest in Hungarian aerobatics as our pilots are home here, which is a well known advantage for the organizing countries. Also, it puts and keeps us in the mainstream of the world’s aerobatics and we’re proud that the earlier contests organized here are remembered and mentioned wolrdwide to this day. Maybe all this add to the fact that, by a good chance, we can organize the contest with the highest number of participants ever here at Sármellék. We do our best to bring the most visitors to Hévíz, to Sármellék and to the competition: a free visitor zone will be available for everyone. To further popularize the event, for the last day, the 20th of September, a major airshow is under preparation. It’s already sure that Sármellék will be the home of this year’s most prestigious powered aerobatics contest in September.
